Art History Minor Requirements

A minor in art history will prepare you to enter a career in a variety of art related fields such as museum or gallery work, arts administration, arts librarian, antiquarian, auctioneer. It will also provide those interested in pursuing graduate studies in art history or museum studies with the necessary prerequisites to apply to graduate programs. As an art minor with a concentration in art history, you will take two art history core courses, one art history seminar and 4 upper level art history courses in the area of your interest.

It is recommended that you take the two art history core courses during your first semesters in the program, as they provide you with an historical overview of Western art history, the terminology, analytical and research skills to master more advanced art history courses. It is also recommended that students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in art history or museum studies complete one foreign language course at the intermediate (200) level, which is part of the Bachelor of Art requirement.

Your advisor will help you select the appropriate upper-level art history courses.  These can be in any area of your interest. Your advisor can also assist you in selecting courses in other areas that will help you succeed in your chosen career.
