The Photography concentration at Delta State offers a diverse curriculum that prepares students to be working artists. Students complete coursework in darkroom silver-based and color photography, digital photography, and digital video. Our courses emphasize mastery of craft and technique in service to the creation of work that is insightful and probing. The curriculum helps students to develop the historical, conceptual, and technical foundation necessary to use the medium with the control needed for creative expression. Professors work one-on-one with students and in group critiques.
DSU boasts the best digital photography facility within several hundred miles. Our digital lab contains 19 Apple G5 computers with 22 inch Lacie Monitors. The lab is stocked with a professional-level negative scanner as well as the latest technology in archival ink jet printing. Students enrolled in digital video classes have access to HD digital video cameras and Final Cut Pro non-linear editing software. The Delta International Film and Video Festival, hosted by DSU, screens films from around the world and provides a showcase for student video. Photography students also have access to a fully-equipped traditional darkroom which includes enlargers for black and white and color printing.
